- What is this game ?
- Kho-Kho fosters many desirable traits – sportsmanship, teamwork, loyalty, competitiveness and self-esteem as well as speed, agility, strategy and quick thinking. This game in itself is a personal development tool for the athlete that takes up the challenge.
- Kho-Kho is one of the most popular traditional sports in India. This is the sport which is played by men, women and even children in almost every school and colleges. Like all Indian games, it is simple, inexpensive and enjoyable – that make the game as enduring as it is endearing. It is essentially a version of tag that's why children like this sport to play during their break time. One of the main points of a successful animal life is “Active Chase” Which is a fundamental principal of the Indian Game called Kho-Kho, synonymous with the phrase a “Game of Chase”.
- HISTORY :-
- Kho-Kho is a traditional game played in India. Its origins are ancient, with strategies and tactics likely derived from the epic ‘Mahabharata’. On the 13th day of the war, the Kaurava General Guru Dronacharya created the ‘Chakravyuha’ a special military defensive circle which was eventually penetrated by the renowned warrior Abhimanyu. He was killed eventually by having to fight alone against 7 other warriors but he inflicted heavy casualties in return. His style of fighting reflects the concept of ‘ring play’ – a defensive tactic in Kho Kho.

The game is played in two innings A team consist of 15 players. However 12 players are nominated for a match and only 9 take to the actual game initially. Every team has to chase and defend for 9 minutes each twice in a match that thus consist of 2 innings or defending once in an inning is termed as “turn” of the particular act. The Controlled Sprinting, Dodging, Diving are few skills exhibited during the game, which is owned by a team that score more point (one point is awarded for every defender, who is out).
Defenders enter the limit, in batches of three. After the third and last defender of batch is out, the next batch must enter the limits, before a 'kho' is given by the successful active chaser. Defenders have full freedom of movement on both sides of the central lane, but the active chaser cannot change the direction to which he is committed. An active chaser can change position with a seated chaser, by touching him from behind by palm, and uttering the word 'kho' loudly, and simultaneously, chase or attack is build up through a series of 'khos' as the chase continues with a relay of chasers.
- Impact of Kho-Kho on Girl’s life :-
1. No requirement of special equipment to play kho kho like tennis badminton etc
Therefore is free to play and there is no economic barrier to play the sport
2. Kho kho teaches both about how to play as a team while chasing and how to play all alone while dodging which is very similar to our day to day life.
3. Only requirement is an open ground and people willing to play unlike hockey cricket etc.
4. Kho kho teaches girls how to control impulses and be always alert for opportunities.
5. Kho kho is a very dynamic game in which you have to run , stop immediately , think fast , do acrobatic stunts , consider time and still stay calm
This helps everyone who has Played kho kho to navigate life better.
6. Since it's a gender neutral game both boys and girls are given equal opportunities .
Unlike others sports I.e., cricket ,football , tennis, chess where male domination is very evident .
7. For girls kho kho is important because it's one of those few sports which are not under the radar of conservative thinking approach of Indian society and thus helps the Girl child become confident and smart.
8. The game is very often ridiculed at the expense of it's simplicity and wholesomeness which are much needed in the dire future, thus now the time is ripe for Kho Kho to become a global sport and bring people together from all over the globe.
The WORK KHO-KHO CHAMPIONS is doing -
- Initially it started with a team name and Used it to share our content on social medial platform .
- Then I thought thast i should also portray players outside of our school and other places to give them recoginition and encouragement.
- By doing this I realised that many talented players are not getting proper news , updates , skills video and technical support to improve their game .
- Then I started to post news regarding all the upcoming Championships.
- And at the same time I also post skills related videos to give technical help to beginners.
- We have been instrumental in guiding many players,mostly girls . I personally have been personally involved in all of theirs sports carrier.
- Under our guidence and council many players competed in NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS.
